Why email security is vital to your business

Posted: 30th January 2019

What impact would a breach of your email security have on your business?

Is your business exposed to email security risks? What impact would a breach have on your business? From customer service, generating new business, to communicating with your team, email platforms are the driving force of business operations. This reliance on email makes it a very attractive target for cyber criminals, and requires all employees to be aware of the risk.

Email security is a growing problem. Symantec’s 2018 Internet Security Threat Report (ISTR) report found that 55% of email traffic worldwide consists of spam messages. The report also highlighted that the average email user was receiving 16 malicious emails per month. To put this into focus, if you have 20 employees, that’s 320 times per month you are relying on your team to make the right judgement and not expose your business to risk. As phishing emails become more and more sophisticated and harder to recognise, this can be a big ask of employees. Training and increasing awareness can help, but the right security solution reduces the risk of human error.

What can you do to reduce your exposure from email security threats?

Introducing an email security platform will reduce the risk from a email security breach. We recommend our customers are protected by SolarWinds Mail Assure, an email security solution which will protect from malware, phishing and other email borne threats.

How would your business be protected?

Mail Assure checks incoming, outgoing, and internal email for malware, phishing, ransomware, viruses and spam. Using cutting edge self-learning technology, the threat database is continuously updated to protect against new & emerging threats. Spam filters will quarantine incoming email messages if they are identified as a potential security risk and blacklists are created to offer further protection.

Mail Assure will provide you with email stability and continuity should your business suffer an outage or an attack. It is designed to compliment & enhance the security in Office 365, offering an additional layer of protection.

The platform also provides email archiving to protect important information you wish to keep and ensure it is available if required. The archiving function will compress email attachments before encrypting them to provide a high level of security, helping your business to stay compliant and protected.

Still to be convinced? We’d be happy to meet with you to discuss how Mail Assure can help protect your business. You can contact IT Centric on 0131 477 264.
