The Yard Dundee to benefit from Sports Challenge Dinner

Posted: 4th April 2018

An annual Question of Sport style event in Dundee is set to raise thousands for The Yard, a charity which offers an adventure play service to disabled children, young people and their families.

Organised by Thorntons Solicitors and Thorntons Investments, the Sports Challenge Dinner will take place on Thursday 10 May at Apex City Quay Hotel & Spa.

Guests will challenge each other in a sports themed quiz in a bid to be crowned top sports brains in Tayside and take home the Dundee Sports Challenge trophy. There will also be a number of team prizes to be won throughout the night and a charity auction, ensuring it’s an evening packed with healthy competition.

This year’s fundraiser will once again boast a premier line-up with hosts rugby legend Andy Nicol and Sky Sports’ pundit Alan McInally, as well as special guest Rangers legend and former Scotland international Ally McCoist.

Craig Nicol, managing partner at Thorntons, said: “Now in its fifth year, Sports Challenge has raised over £105,000 for Scottish children’s charities since it was launched, and we hope to raise a great sum once again. We’re delighted that all proceeds of this year’s event will go to The Yard and Children’s Aid.   It’s been a hugely popular fundraiser over the years so I would encourage anyone hoping to attend, to reserve their tickets now.”

Tables of 10 are priced at £1,250 which includes a drinks reception, canapés on arrival and a three course dinner as well as the popular sports quiz and Hit or Miss games. Alan McInally will also host a Q&A session with Ally McCoist on the night.

Celine Sinclair, CEO at The Yard, said: “We are so grateful to the team at Thorntons for organising what is sure to be a great event. Thanks also to the guests, who will be offering vital support to disabled children and their families in Dundee, by helping to fund The Yard’s weekly family sessions.

“As we develop our Dundee service, this helps move us towards our aim of building a brand new, purpose built centre to host The Yard Dundee within the next few years, allowing us to reach an even greater number of disabled children and young people who need.”
