The E-Commerce Landscape in Poland and CEE

Posted: 14th March 2023

This event in collaboration with Allegro and Exorigo Upos International will focus on introducing the E-commerce market in Poland and CEE, as well as the trends, opportunities, and what it takes to build a successful multichannel presence in market.

  • Date: 16 March 2023
  • Time: 11:00 to 12:00 (GMT)

The E-commerce market in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) is developing dynamically thanks to rising consumer incomes and a vibrant digital landscape. With Poland acting as a European hub for IT services and logistics, this unique pairing makes it a gateway to CEE’s E-commerce market.

Poland has around 38 million inhabitants and approximately 30 million of them are internet users, with 77% of them also shopping online. The vast majority use both marketplace platforms and online specialty stores, with marketplaces going from strength to strength. The Polish E-commerce market value in 2021 accounted for 92 billion PLN. By 2027, it’s expected to double, reaching 187 billion PLN. But, to conquer this attractive market, one needs to do thorough research given that standard Western ‘rules’ don’t apply in the same way in this part of the continent. Polish buyers strongly prefer domestic platforms and favour their strong, local players, such as Allegro.

Allegro is the most popular B2C marketplace in the country with 22 million client visits a month and 250 million offers in 14 product categories. In Poland, more people start looking for products on Allegro (30% of all online buyers start on Allegro and 91% of them finalise purchases on the platform) than on Google (18% of online buyers search via Google, but 57% of them still end up on Allegro), making it the most popular shopping platform in the country. Allegro is also the tenth most popular marketplace in the world, currently expanding to five more countries in CEE: the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, and Croatia. International delivery to 24 EU countries is also available.

During the webinar you will have a chance to discover the unique characteristics of the e-commerce landscape in CEE, particularly in Poland, and learn about the trends and opportunities through the lens of an established local player. You will find out how Allegro can help you overcome cross-border market entry barriers, so that you can conquer the market and expand your business.

We will be joined by our experts:

• Emilia Gregorczyk, Business Development Partner, Allegro who’s in charge of Allegro’s sourcing and business development projects within EEA, the UK, Turkey, and the US. She has a strong expertise in building partnerships, retaining key accounts, and enhancing profit channels across Europe.

• Martin Oxley, Chairman, Exorigo Upos International – a leading CEE-based retail services group, which is supporting companies to expand in the region with store, e-commerce, and marketplace solutions. Martin will talk candidly about what it takes to build a successful multichannel presence in Poland and CEE markets.

This event will be followed by a series of roadshow events with Allegro in May 2023, so make sure to keep an eye out for more information over the coming weeks.
