On Friday 29th August the RSABI Great Glen Challenge 2014 came to an end. Geoghegans Chartered Accountants came in a very respective 6th place out of the 22 teams competing.
The event involved team members running, kayaking, walking and cycling. Team ‘Geoghegans’ involved our keen members of staff; Blair Paterson kayaked, Laura Forrester ran, Allan Smith walked and Alan Shek cycled. Despite our cyclist encountering a puncture and our kayak being grounded, Laura successfully finished third place in the running. Overall the team raised over £1,000 for RSABI which has helped them reach their total fundraising target of £36,000. We would like to thank everyone who donated and hopefully see you all again next year!

Maclay Murray & Spens’ (MMS) Catriona Munro is set to chair the next Scottish Competition Law Forum (SCLF) event, which takes place on 11 September. With online taking a rapidly growing slice of all retail sales, the session will explore some of the different issues facing online and ‘bricks and mortar’ businesses, as well as the approach taken by the Competition and Markets Authority and European Commission to accommodate such structural change.
Catriona Munro, a partner in MMS’ EU & Competition department, said: “Online selling continues to have a transformational effect on retail markets and this event offers an excellent opportunity to explore the competition implications in more depth.”

On Friday 29th August, Geoghegans Chartered Accountants will be taking part in the RSABI Great Glen Challenge 2014. With 23 other teams competing in the challenge, team Geoghegans have been preparing for the gruelling task ahead. The team will be taking part in: a half marathon, a 34km mountain bike ride, a 7km kayak course and a 10km walk. This ‘taxing’ task is all to help raise funds for the Scottish Charity RSABI which was established in 1897. The team has already raised over £1,000 for the Charity, who are established to provide financial assistance, support and advice to people who work in Scotland’s in land-based occupations and who are suffering hardship. Every year RSABI helps hundreds of people with backgrounds in farming, crofting, forestry, horticulture, fish-farming, gamekeeping and rural estate work who, due to illness, disability, poverty or crisis, find that they are unable to cope. The team are ready for the challenge ahead and are hoping to bring the winning title back with them. We wish them all the best.

Ron Weatherup studied Accounting and Finance at Edinburgh University. In his final year he developed a real interest in computers which led to him achieving two Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE) qualifications after completing his degree. He founded Lugo (then ScotICT) in 2003 following a period working for the Scottish Sage Accounting Centre where he was involved in installations, migrations, training and ongoing support. At the same time he was implementing IT networks from the ground up for clients based on Windows 2000 and particularly enjoyed designing and implementing networks on which Accountants could run their software.
Liz Smith studied accountancy and worked in practice for 3 years before joining Sage as a Software Consultant for 12 years. Liz now works with Lugo IT offering consultancy services to businesses wanting to get the most out of their investment in IT and helping organisations to set goals, address the practicalities of change and in turn improve efficiency and realise their potential.
