Shepherd and Wedderburn is proud to be playing a key role in this week’s Royal Highland Show.

The event (from 18-21 June), which has been held at Ingliston, on the outskirts of Edinburgh, since 1960, will feature up to 5,000 head of livestock, live bands and stalls. Outside of the exhibition halls and livestock rings, there are a wide range of competitive and display events, including international sheep shearing, show jumping, driving, tug-of-war, dog obedience trials, falconry, farriery and other rural pursuits. Visitor numbers are expected to be in the region of 180,000.

As solicitors to the Royal Highland & Agricultural Society of Scotland (RHSS), Shepherd and Wedderburn’s rural property specialists will be in attendance. Together with land agency firm Bidwells, they will host a breakfast seminar on Friday, the focus of which is the impending Land Reform legislation. Those attending will be welcomed by Lord Forsyth, the former Secretary of State for Scotland, who is the President of the Royal Highland Show (RHS).

Richard Lochhead MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs, Food and Environment will be guest speaker at the event, and as he has already intimated the release of the Land Reform Bill before commencement of the summer recess, the seminar will provide a great opportunity for the Scottish Government to set out the detail of its planned reforms.

Speakers, including Shepherd & Wedderburn Partner Brian Robertson, will examine the issues relating to the debate on land reform. This and other presentations promise to generate lively debate during the question and answer sessions which follow.

Shepherd and Wedderburn will also be hosting a reception at the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust Gamefair Show at Scone Palace from 11-12:30pm on Friday 3 July.
