On the 10th March 2017, the University will hold a reunion for events graduates to mark the 10th anniversary of the BA (Hons) Events Management programme at Queen Margaret University.

This special reunion will bring together 30 alumni from all over the world including Norway, Germany, Dubai and the UK. The graduates will meet up with 50 event management students who are currently studying the degree programme at QMU.

Professor Joe Goldblatt, a world renowned authority on events management, is organising the reunion and looking forward to catching up with the students that he taught on the programme at QMU. He explained: “This is a wonderful opportunity for our current students to connect with graduates of the programme. We have no doubt that our graduates, many of whom are working in exciting locations across the globe, will inspire and encourage our younger students, and possibly mentor them as they start out on their careers.”

The organising team are delighted that graduates are returning to the capital to mark the 10th anniversary of the degree programme. The BA (Hons) Event Management programme was founded by Dr Cathy Matheson from QMU’s Division of Arts, Social Sciences and Management, and over the last 10 years it has produced over 200 graduates. The degree involves the study of international planned events and many graduates have secured excellent jobs both within the UK, for example with the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and abroad with international event companies such as the pioneering organisation EventMobi and The Dubai 2020 World’s Fair.

Professor Goldblatt continued: “The event will include an award ceremony with five graduates being recognised in key categories such as ‘Innovation’, ‘Rising Star’ and ‘Supporter of the Year’. Five graduates worked for over a year to plan and deliver the reunion, which will not be held again until 2027. Importantly, this special reunion also ties in with QMU 10th anniversary celebrations of its move to Musselburgh in 2007.”

The event also aims to raise £5,000 for an annual award for final year students – £500 per year for the next 10 years. £3500 of that target has already been reached, thanks to a generous donation from The Scotsman Hotel.

The 10th anniversary reunion for Event Management students will be held in the Piano Bar at QMU on 10th April from 3pm – 7pm.
