A student from Queen Margaret University (QMU), Edinburgh, has been crowned the UK’s Best Undergraduate Student of Tourism 2015 by the Association of Tourism in Higher Education (ATHE).

Sarah Campbell, 22, who is from Davidson’s Mains in Edinburgh and attended Royal High School Edinburgh, graduated from QMU earlier this year with a BA (Hons) International Hospitality and Tourism Management.

Sarah won the top title from the ATHE after being nominated by the University and achieving the highest overall mark of any tourism student this year.

ATHE is the subject association for tourism in higher education in the UK. The Association celebrates the impact that teaching, learning and research in tourism can have on society.

The Association is striving to ensure that the case for tourism in higher education is heard by the relevant stakeholders and sees this award scheme as recognising excellence in building leadership and management capacity in the visitor economy and understanding global complexity through tourism.

Commenting on her award, Sarah, said: “I’m really proud to have been named the UK’s best undergraduate tourism student of the year and recognised for my academic achievements.

“The course has involved a lot of hard work, but the continued support from QMU has enabled me to develop my skills and career prospects. I now plan to kick start my tourism management career in New Zealand.”
