Presenter to return to the airwaves next month, launching a brand new Drivetime show for Scotland

Radio audiences will soon have popular presenter Garry Spence back on the airwaves, as today he confirms the start date of his brand-new show. The radio host, who has become a firm favourite with Scottish audiences, also reveals today that the show will be expanded so that more across the country can tune in.

Having signed up as the new ‘Home Run’ host of Clyde 1, the presenter will bring the show to even more stations across The Hits Radio Network. Audiences for Forth 1, Tay FM, Northsound 1, West FM will be able to hear the newly expanded show every weekday from 4pm.

Listeners of Tay FM and Northsound 1 will be the first to hear Garry when he returns to the airwaves on Monday 3rd February. The remaining stations will make the switch to the exciting new programme from Monday 30th March.

The move ensures that more listeners across the country will be able to hear the much-loved presenter, who started his career at Inverness’ MFR before moving onto national radio. On their local station, listeners will receive the new show combined with all their local news, traffic and travel, ensuring they remain informed as well as entertained.

Speaking about the new show, Garry said “I’m itching to get back into the studio and get going! I’ve got a great team here in Scotland and together we’re lining up lots of ideas ready for our first show next month. We’ll be bringing you all of the biggest hits and biggest throwbacks, making sure we get you on the home stretch every weekday afternoon.”

Graham Bryce, Group Managing Director for the Hits Radio Network said: “Garry Spence is simply one of the best presenters in Scotland. With such a popular fanbase across the country, we saw a demand to bring his upcoming show to a wider audience.“We’re pleased that our local Drivetime hosts will remain on stations across The Hits Radio Network. With the change, West FM’s Alan Shaw will be leaving our fold to explore new opportunities. Alan is a great talent who has contributed a tremendous amount during his time at the station. We thank him for everything and wish him all the very best for the future.”

Meanwhile, sister station Greatest Hits Radio Scotland is adding esteemed broadcasters Mark Goodier and Micky Gavin to their weekday line-up. Mark will host 10am-1pm, while Micky takes on the Home Run slot from 4-7pm. Micky who boasts a glittering 25-year career in commercial radio makes the move from Forth 1. It’s a return to Scottish radio for Mark Goodier, who began his career on Scottish stations including Radio Forth before starting a 15-year stint with BBC Radio. The new shows commence from Monday 30th March.
