One Square launches chocolate afternoon tea in partnership with Cacao Barry

Posted: 6th September 2018

Edinburgh foodies will soon be able to enjoy One Square’s new afternoon tea menu, created in partnership with renowned French chocolatier, Cacao Barry.

The autumn menu will be available from Monday 12 September, featuring both savoury and sweet treats, with numerous varieties of chocolate taking centre stage.

Highlights of the menu include the 70% cocoa dark sacher torte, extra brut chocolate doughnut with sour cherry filling and choux bun with a 60% chocolate crisp topping and white chocolate and blueberry filling. The menu costs £32 per person.

Fittingly, French company Cacao Barry started out as tea and coffee merchants in the 19th century, before travelling to Africa to source cocoa beans and transform them into refined and delicate chocolate products. The company has a worldwide reputation as a leader of the chocolate industry and for the last decade, Cacao Barry has organised the World Chocolate Masters competition, helping chefs build their reputation on the global stage.

Tea loving guests will experience the unique One Square Tea Service which revolves around the Scottish brasserie’s Tea Trolley and Samovar – a water boiling device used mainly in Russia, dating back to the 1700s.

The water is continually boiled and the tea pots used are specially designed to bring out the best in each blend. A timer ensures every cup is brewed perfectly and an expert will guide customers through the range of teas available to help them choose their ideal blend. A selection of black, oolong, fruit and decaf teas are available.

One Square, located at the Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa in Edinburgh’s Festival Square, is home to world-class patisserie and brasserie chefs whose passion for using high-quality, versatile ingredients in creative ways is demonstrated in the chocolate-filled menu.

Craig Hart, Executive Chef at One Square, said: “This menu isn’t your standard chocolate afternoon tea – the dishes use the freshest, most flavoursome ingredients produced by a world-class chocolatier. Different varieties and strengths are featured, creating an indulgent, melt-in-your-mouth menu that really is an adventure, even for the most seasoned chocoholics!”

Afternoon tea is served daily at One Square from 2.30pm until 5.30pm. The afternoon tea menu changes every season and the current theme will run until mid-November. To view the full menu and book, head to the One Square website: https://www.onesquareedinburgh.co.uk/en/chocolate-tea.
