Next steps for the Edinburgh and South East Scotland Region: taking forward the City Region Deal, implementing a Regional Prosperity Framework, and priorities for inclusive growth

Monday 26th September 2022

This conference will discuss the priorities for taking forward the Edinburgh and South East Scotland City Region Deal, following the publication of a Regional Prosperity Framework (RPF) in September 2021.

Delegates will look at the delivery of the framework, with the seminar taking place shortly after the expected publication of an Implementation and Action Plan for the RPF – and with The Scottish Government currently considering the interim Regional Spatial Strategy for the region.

It will be an opportunity for stakeholders and policymakers to discuss key issues going forward for the region as the City Region Deal enters its fifth year.

Sessions in the agenda look at:

  • progress and next steps – the Edinburgh and South East Scotland Regional City Deal five years on – lessons learnt – priorities moving forward
  • economic growth – the regional prosperity framework and its implementation – building on the City Deal – stakeholder collaboration – inclusive growth – attracting inward investment
  • the Firth of Forth Freeport – next steps – opportunities for inward investment and trade – infrastructure development – impact on local communities
  • Edinburgh’s cultural sector – lessons to be learned for regional development from the city’s success in attracting investment, collaboration and building an international profile
  • innovation – delivering the ambition of a data capital – digital connectivity and growth – implications for the regional economy
  • sustainability – priorities for implementing a regional environment strategy
  • housing – implementing a regional spatial strategy – housing needs – funding priorities – support for the sector to deliver affordable homes
  • policy – priorities for future development of the Edinburgh and South East Scotland Region

We are pleased to be able to include keynote sessions with Andrew Kerr, Chief Executive, City of Edinburgh Council; Isabel Davis, Executive Director, Screen Scotland; Jarmo Eskelinen, Director, Data Driven Innovation Programme, University of Edinburgh; Charles Hammond, Chief Executive, Forth Ports; and Dr Philippa Parmiter, Project Manager, Scottish Carbon Capture and Storage.

The conference will be an opportunity for stakeholders to consider the issues alongside key policy officials who are due to attend from The Scottish Government, as well as from the DCMS; DIT; and Transport Scotland.
