The number of foreign direct investments to the Capital this month is the highest attracted since the figures were first recorded in May 2008.

The Edinburgh Investment Tracker, produced by the City of Edinburgh Council each month, shows that 11 companies headquartered in countries including the United States, Germany, South Africa and the Netherlands announced plans to move into the city in July 2015, and this will create an estimated over 200 new jobs.

Cllr Frank Ross, Economy Convener, welcomes the news.

“The average number of foreign direct investments each month is normally around two or three so this news, which will bring more jobs to the city, is very welcome.  Edinburgh is the most prosperous city in the UK outside London and there is tremendous confidence in investing here at the moment. Billions of pounds worth of investment is being ploughed into the Edinburgh 12 key development sites, which include Edinburgh St James, New Waverley and The Haymarket, therefore this latest success is not surprising.  The arrival of the trams and Edinburgh Airport’s expansion, as well as the many new flight routes introduced in 2014/15 are also contributing to Edinburgh’s prosperity.

“The companies coming to Edinburgh this month vary from high-tech life sciences and software companies to boutique restaurants and retailers. This is a healthy mix, which is really important to ensure we continue to have a sustained and varied economy.”

Foreign direct investments in July:

• Brocade (HQ San Jose, California, USA): Data and storage networking products provider Brocade has opened an office on Canning Street.
• BTIG (HQ New York, New York, USA): Trader and investment bank BTIG has opened an office in Edinburgh.
• Dell (HQ Round Rock, Texas, USA): Dell SecureWorks has opened a new full-service security operations centre in Tanfield.
• Deutsche Windtechnik (HQ Bremen, Germany): Wind turbine maintenance provider Deutsche Windtechnik has opened an office in Edinburgh.
• FanDuel (HQ New York, New York, USA): Fantasy sports firm FanDuel has pre-let larger office premises at Quartermile 4.
• FIS (HQ Jacksonville, Florida, USA): Banking and payments technology provider FIS has opened an office on Rose Street.
• GrandVision (HQ Amsterdam, Netherlands): Optician chain the GrandVision group has opened a new Vision Express outlet on Frederick Street.
• Siopaella (HQ Dublin, Ireland) Fashion consignment store Siopaella has opened a pop-up shop on Jeffrey Street and is seeking a permanent location.
• Skechers (HQ Manhattan Beach, California, USA): Footwear chain Skechers is to open a store on Princes Street.
• Spur Corporation (HQ Cape Town, South Africa): Restaurant chain the Spur Corporation plans to open an RBW restaurant in Edinburgh.
• Sputnik News (HQ Moscow, Russia): News agency Sputnik News has opened an office on Canning Street.
