Healthy growth for Edinburgh Private GP

Posted: 20th November 2015

Edinburgh based YourGP, a private primary care practice which has been operational for nearly 15 years in the capital, is embarking on a strong expansion programme with the opening of a new practice in Aberdeen’s West End.

Founded in 2003 by Dr Lynsey Myskow the Dean Village practice is well established is Edinburgh with 8 doctors and 10 other clinicians and alternative medical practitioners. The opening in Scot-land’s oil capital will be followed in the new year by another new practice in the heart of Glasgow’s business district.

With continued underfunding across NHS Scotland and a GP staffing crisis, many practices are facing cut backs in services and appointment times available. Aberdeen in particular has been suf-fering from closures of GP practices and some patients are having to wait up to 25 days to see their GP. For many patients, peace of mind and being seen immediately easily justifies any cost implications.

“While numerous waiting lists initiatives are in place in the NHS, a private GP practice offering same day appointments and open 7 days a week will be a welcome alternative for many” said Dr Myskow the company’s Medical Director.

The Edinburgh founded organisation offers full GP services including women’s health, men’s health, pediatrics, sexual health, occupation health, travel and general vaccinations and medical checks including OGUK oil and gas medicals and personal medical checks. These services will also be available in Aberdeen along with alternative therapies as the practice develops.

With a strong occupational health service YourGP also offers bespoke packages for companies and organisations wanting to look after their staff either as a perk or as a convenient, fast, same day service in the city centre. YourGP can also carry out clinics within large business premises for convenience and to save staff travel time! A range of treatments are available directly at the two practices including joint and soft tissue injections, non-surgical cosmetics, sports medicine, minor surgery, contraception and family planning, and physiotherapy. For many companies investing in staff health is sound practice.

Dr Malcolm Valentine, who has just been appointed Medical Director of the new YourGP practice in Aberdeen, says “Following the closure of my NHS Practice in the City, I was delighted to be offered the challenge of leading the development of the new YourGP practice in Aberdeen – an entirely unexpected opportunity. The level of investment, staff recruitment and preparation is impressive. It offers a fantastic alternative service which Aberdeen has not had up until now and it will take some of the burden off of mainstream NHS GP activity. There is a team of experienced GPs, Nurse Practitioners and other Practitioners already in place in the surgery. Everyone is very positive about the opening and the service that we wish to offer”.
