The Arcadis Business Challenge at the Simplyhealth Great Edinburgh Run is less than a month away!

If your organisation is thinking about entering a team into the Arcadis Business Challenge in either the 10-mile or the 5 mile run around Scotland’s capital city, here are 5 reasons why you run better when you run together:

Motivation

Just like in the office, runners experience an increase in motivation when working as part of a team.

Organising a weekly run with colleagues will also help keep your training on track by making you accountable to each other.

If you set off on a run straight from your office, it can make fitting it into your day much more convenient

Communication

Running together is a great way to encourage communication. Problem solving and discussing what’s on your mind can seem easier outside of a formal environment – equally socialising and getting to know each other will give you a better understanding of your colleagues

Strength in numbers

Even if you start out with just a couple of runners, it’s likely you’ll inspire others to join in if you keep it up. Having a common purpose and goal will keep everyone on track and helping new runners get up to speed will be rewarding for you and them.

Train Smart

We’ve all been there… competition is inevitable, and beating Jim in IT’s PB would be satisfying, but just bear in mind you’ll all naturally run at different paces.

Discuss this prior to running so you’re all happy with the pace you’ll be aiming for and no-one is put off if they cant keep up.

If there’s a huge difference in pace then try incorporating some speed work, run hard then jog back to them to recover – but always remember to take the end of your run easy to help your body recover for your next outing
