Edinburgh Airport Welcomes Three New Direct Flights From Scotland to Major European Destinations

Posted: 15th October 2015

Edinburgh Airport has today welcomed confirmation of three new regular passenger flights to major European destinations with European low cost airline Vueling.

A significant route expansion from Vueling (part of the IAG group) will see three-times-a-week direct flights from Scotland’s capital to Rome Fiumicino, Paris Orly and to Alicante.

Rome Fiumicino (FCO) and Parlis Orly (ORY) are new routes for Edinburgh Airport and Vueling will fly to both from March 29th 2016. Alicante flights via Vueling commence from June 16 next year.

This news follows the recent figures showing the busiest September ever at Edinburgh Airport in which over 1 million passengers travelled through the doors – an 8.7% growth on the same period last year.

Gordon Dewar, Chief Executive of Edinburgh Airport, said:

“It is tremendous that we have two new routes to Rome and Paris and we have increased our service to  Alicante – this offers our passengers even greater choice and is further confirmation of Edinburgh Airport’s position as a key driver for Scotland’s economy.

“This commitment from Vueling – a strong European airline –  shows that we’ve listened to our passengers and recognise the need for greater choice and European connectivity; this expansion in service is good news for business and leisure travelers, for Edinburgh and for Scotland as a whole.

“With over one million passengers through the doors at Edinburgh Airport last month – and in every one of the last five months – we are continuing to grow, create jobs and make a positive contribution for Scotland’s economy.”
