Eco packaging goes glam: street food colour, award-winning innovations and free zero waste advice

Posted: 21st December 2015

Edinburgh eco packaging company Vegware demonstrates its commitment to the environment with twin stands at Hotelympia, the UK’s largest foodservice and hospitality event, at ExCel London 29th – 3rd March 2016.

The Vegware stand showcases the latest eco packaging trends and innovations; and uniquely for a packaging firm, and Vegware’s Food Waste Network stand in Waste-Works offers expert recycling advice helping foodservice go zero waste.

Vegware (stand 1235, Food and Drink section)

Winner of over 50 awards, Vegware makes packaging from plants – not plastic. This spans cups, cutlery and tableware made from renewable or recycled materials, all of which is completely compostable, designed to be recycled with food waste (with the help of Vegware’s Food Waste Network). Throwing off its humble image, this year’s vibrant display proves eco now plays a vital role enhancing current style trends.

The colourful Vegware stand helps clients navigate key style trends. Complete with eye-catching urban display, the Street Food zone shows off the ultimate grab and go products to package this huge trend. This includes the launch of Tasting Notes, Vegware’s vibrant new grab and go collection which combines appetizing word clouds with on-trend bright colours – all using low carbon eco materials. Other big style trends include: the Kraft collection, for lovers of the artisan eco chic; and the White collection for the crisp ‘eat clean’ look.

Vegware invests in R&D, and the Innovation zone displays Vegware firsts, such as the Gourmet Range, the first anti-spill eco takeaway solution for hot or cold food to go, winner of the Caterer Product Excellence Awards 20150 with its 13 combinations of plastic-free bases and lids. Plus Vegware’s RCPLA cutlery in black or white – the first cutlery made of 100% recycled plant-based material, which is still certified compostable.

For branding inspiration, Custom Print Café showcases Vegware’s in-house Creative Consultancy – logos and marketing messages brought to life on a wide range of takeaway packaging.

Experts are on hand to answer any environmental questions. Vegware’s Eco Audits quantify the carbon savings of switching to plant-based materials; in 2015 the firm has already saved over 3,200 tonnes of carbon.

The Food Waste Network (stand 3141 – Waste-Works)

It is Vegware’s goal to be part of the transition to zero waste to landfill within a foodservice environment, and the Food Waste Network is its free service matchmaking any UK business with its ideal food waste recycling partner. The Food Waste Network has successfully introduced zero waste systems at major UK universities, Canary Wharf sites, and corporate restaurants around the UK.

Play the Recycling Challenge to see if you can sort the waste against the clock – and beat your colleagues. See bin signage proven to reduce contamination, and find out about staff engagement and behaviour change.

Group Recycling Consultant Eilidh Brunton has been invited to contribute to the Waste-Works Live as an expert speaker on overcoming barriers to zero waste in foodservice.
