Cyrenians appoints new Director to build on their Social Enterprise success

Posted: 23rd September 2020

Cyrenians have appointed Mike Hartley, formerly Managing Director of Newsco Insider, in the newly created post of Director of Commercial and Trading Services.

The Edinburgh based charity holds a varied social enterprise portfolio, which contributes vital funds to support their work tackling the causes and consequences of homelessness in Scotland.

Cyrenians Chief Executive Ewan Aitken said, “With covid-19 creating additional pressures on our communities we know that there will be even more individuals and families in need of our support. Growing our social enterprises means that we can continue providing our values-led support, whilst providing the kind of sustainability we need to face the coming economic storms.

“This is a really exciting time for our organisation, and bringing Mike into our team is crucial to ensuring we can continue to develop and diversify, meeting the needs of those who rely most on our support.”

Newly appointed Director Mike Hartley added, “I’m delighted to be joining the team at Cyrenians, supporting their strategic aims to diversify their fundraising activity and build on the success of their social enterprises.

“It’s incredibly humbling to be able to take my experience from some of the leading UK publishing organisations and apply it to Cyrenians goal of helping people take the next positive step in their life journey.”

Mike Hartley joins Cyrenians next week as Director of Commercial and Trading Services following a career in high profile senior commercial and general management roles with both large corporates as well as owner-managed businesses. He has enjoyed a long career working for some of the UKs leading publishing organisations in senior sales, marketing and commercial management roles. He has previously worked closely with charities helping them build their brand and increase their reach and appeal.
