Can you use your entrepreneurial spirit to help develop tomorrow’s leaders?

Posted: 15th September 2016

Are you an experienced commercial leader or entrepreneur looking for a new challenge to fire your imagination? Heriot-Watt University Student Union might be able to provide you with exactly that opportunity.

Student unions are no longer the dingy bar and nightclub many of us might remember. Modern student unions are multi-million pound charities that need to keep up with the demands of increasing student pressures and expectations.

Heriot-Watt University Students Union is looking to appoint an external trustee to add to our established and all round amazing trustee board. The student union is a charitable company and the trustee board is at the top, responsible for making sure we continue deliver for our students.

We are preparing to write a new commercial strategy to move our organisation from the traditional student union commercial model to something new and fit for the future. Can you play a part in making this happen?

As a trustee you will receive training to fulfil your duties as well as opportunities to network with other trustees across the UK. You’ll also have the opportunity to become a mentor to one of our elected sabbatical officers, working one to one with our student leaders to help them achieve their potential.

We are looking for a dynamic person with the energy and passion to support and challenge the union as we enter an important investment and growth strategy. If you think you fit the bill then we would love to hear from you.

For an informal chat about this voluntary role please contact Gail Edwards, Chief Executive Officer on 0131 451 5333 or g.edwards@hw.ac.uk.

More information is available at www.hwunion.com/jobs/external-trustee. Please send your CV to Gail by 9am on Friday 7th October.
