Posted: 1st October 2019

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) is pleased to announce that Azuma will be introduced into passenger services to and from Glasgow, Aberdeen and Inverness for the first time.

LNER Managing Director David Horne said the new Azumas will officially go into service on the London King’s Cross – Aberdeen route on the 25th November, with the trains introduced onto
the London King’s Cross – Inverness route on the 9th December.

“I am delighted that Azuma will be introduced on our Aberdeen and Inverness routes over the coming months. This will mean that Azuma will be calling at all of our Scottish destinations, marking an important moment in the rollout of the new trains and helping us to transform the travel experience for customers.”

Azuma services will also be introduced between Glasgow Central and London King’s Cross from today (Monday 23 September 2019).

Azuma trains will begin operating the LNER service between Glasgow Central and London King’s Cross service in each direction, replacing the current Class 91 electric train serving the route. David Horne added: “Azuma is a revolutionary train and we are thrilled to launch Azuma services to and from Glasgow, a city with innovation at its heart.

“Our Glasgow service provides a vital rail connection between west Scotland, North East England, Yorkshire, the East Midlands and London. “I look forward to giving even more of our Scottish customers an excellent experience every time they travel with us.”

LNER customers will experience a much more comfortable journey with more seats and an increased amount of legroom in Standard class. The trains also feature the latest in train technology meaning that they are more resilient and better for the environment.

Reservations for Azuma services are open through www.lner.co.uk.
