Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce CEO Steps Down
Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce CEO, David Birrell today announced his decision to step down as Chief Executive in June 2016 after five years in the role. Liz McAreavey, Commercial and Marketing Director will step up to the role of Acting Chief Executive upon David’s departure.
President of Edinburgh Chamber, Scott Black thanked David for his important contribution and wished him well with his future plans: “David’s passion and leadership has underlined the Chamber’s central role in positioning Scotland’s capital city as a world-class business centre. Core to that drive has always been supporting all of our members’ growth ambitions.”
David said: “I am extremely proud of what the Chamber has achieved over the past five years. As the Chamber reaches its 230 anniversary it is clear we are as relevant to the city’s vibrant business community today as we have ever been. It has been an exciting five years and it is now time for me to pursue the next stage in my career.”
Liz McAreavey has led a number of strategic initiatives including the Chamber’s leading role in the Edinburgh, Midlothian and East Lothian Developing the Young Workforce Regional Group. She has previous consultancy and business development experience at Ernst & Young and Deloitte as well as running her own business.
Scott added: “I look forward to continuing to work closely with Liz and the team as we build on the great work the Chamber is recognised for delivering for the benefit of its members and the city as a whole.”
