Edinburgh, Scotland – Local charity, Held In Our Hearts, takes part in the Captain Tom Moore 100 challenge, creating and designing 100 hearts to comfort 100 broken hearts of the bereaved parents that the charity supports.

The Captain Tom 100 was established to honour the Captain’s 101st birthday, and invited everyone to take on a challenge around the number 100, anytime and anywhere, with the aim to fundraise for your favourite charity, or for The Captain Tom Foundation.

Held In Our Hearts established ‘Hearts for Sore Hearts,’ and called upon their compassionate, supportive community to get crafty and design 100 crocheted hearts. Held In Our Hearts supporter Zoe Harman, had originally been designing cream hearts for the charity’s hospital memory bags, and it was decided that some of the hearts made in this campaign would continue to support this incredible effort.

The coloured hearts also allowed the charity to create a ‘Jar of Hearts’ for local hospitals so that family members or siblings can choose one to gift to their brother, sister, or grandchild when they have sadly died.

Held In Our Hearts CEO, Nicola Welsh, stated that:

“We have been so incredibly touched by the heart donations and delighted we achieved our goal of reaching 100. Sir Tom Moore stood for love, kindness and making the most at the worst of times. We feel our campaign mirrored these values. Strangers have come together to knit or crochet a heart for a heart broken family and we hope these will give comfort and encourage memories at the hardest time in someone’s life. A heart can stay with the baby at all times and the family has one to keep forever reminding them they are always connected.”

‘Hearts for Sore Hearts’ continues Held In Our Hearts efforts to provide support for bereaved families, and demonstrates the community spirit that the charity has encouraged and created through years of campaigns, fundraising, and building compassionate bonds. Whilst The Captain Tom 100 enabled Held In Our Hearts to further support bereaved families, the actual challenge itself ensures that Captain Tom’s legacy lives on, and that people can continue to be inspired, and guided by kindness, love, and hope.
