Brave Soles Walk Over Hot Coals for Charity
It was the hottest fundraising event of the year as Leuchie House raised over £5,000. Thanks to the brave volunteers who signed up for the firewalk challenge which took place at Leuchie on Friday 17th October
Each of the participants had raised at least £180 to take part in the event, which was organised by firewalking experts Blaze, who hosted a training session to prepare the fundraisers for the challenge.
One of the brave soles who walked 20ft across burning embers was Jo Yates, Leuchie House’s bookings & marketing officer, who said after the firewalk: “It was an exhilarating experience. Once you get the adrenaline going and get walking, it’s incredibly empowering. And I’m so pleased to have been able to raise money for Leuchie while trying something completely different!”
Leuchie House is the only place in Scotland and the north of England offering quality respite breaks with 24-hour expert nursing care. It relies on supporters and fundraisers to enable this work for people and their families living with conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, stroke, Huntington’s Disease, Parkinson’s, Motor Neurone Disease and cerebral palsy.
Mairi O’Keefe, the CEO at Leuchie, said after the firewalk: “I can’t believe what people are willing to do in the name of Leuchie! We are so grateful to everyone who took part in the firewalk challenge. It was a great night and a great fundraising effort by all concerned.”
