Riddles Court Sessions

Posted: 8th March 2018

SINK to perform opening night of live music at famed Royal Mile property

Long renowned as a great Fringe venue, the newly restored Riddles Court will host its first major live gig on 22nd March – with accomplished Edinburgh-based ensemble Sink and folk songwriter Jemima and the Fuse.

Sink will bring their signature dynamic style to the ancient walls of Riddles Court, exploring the interaction between musicians, architecture and audience in an intimate and memorable experience. The performance will include both pre-written material and improvisation – with movement around the building – in direct response to Patrick Geddes’ three tenets of learning: Sympathy (heart), Synergy (hand) and Synthesis (head).

Praise for Sink’s unique performances have taken their sound to new audiences, with summer 2017 seeing them invited to play at Latitude Festival’s BBC Introducing Stage by Radio 3 DJ Max Reihardt. Their releases have had multiple plays on Late Junction and Radio 6 Music. Tom Robinson, from BBC radio 6 Music, was particularly excited to hear Sink for the first time: “Wow! Just three instruments – accordion, violin and soprano sax – sounds like a complete chamber consort.”

Throughout the last 8 years the band have enjoyed ‘sounding out’ acoustically interesting spaces – playing concerts in such varied spaces as Cathedrals, giant oil tankers, 18th century concert halls and art galleries.

Sink will be joined by Jemima and the Fuse, a singer/songwriter who grew up in the highlands of Scotland; an atmospheric landscape which continues to help provide the bones of her music. She sings traditional songs and her own material, with support from percussionist Tim Lane.

Tickets £10, available from CitizenTickets http://ctzn.tk/Riddlescour
