Changes to local timetables for The 145th Open at Royal Troon
– Alterations to Gourock/Wemyss Bay, Largs/Ardrossan, and Ayr services –
The ScotRail Alliance is advising customers who travel on services between Glasgow and Gourock/Wemyss Bay, Largs/Ardrossan, and Ayr that a temporary timetable will be in place between Thursday 14 and Sunday 17 July.
This year sees Scotland hosting The Open Championship for the second year in a row – this time at Royal Troon Golf Club. In order to accommodate the tens of thousands of spectators expected to travel to the event, ScotRail has slightly altered its Ayrshire timetables to make sure as many fans as possible can get to the course.
Customers are being asked to make sure they check their journey before travelling on any of the four Championship days as train times will be different, and some parts of their journey will be on a replacement bus. Leaving additional time for travel is also recommended as some journeys might be slightly longer.
Phil Verster, managing director of the ScotRail Alliance, said: “The Open Championship is a hugely exciting event for the people of Ayrshire and beyond, and we’re proud to play our part in helping fans get to the course. These timetable changes have been made with our regular customers in mind, and we’ve worked hard to ensure as little inconvenience as possible. I’d ask everyone planning on travelling by train on Championship days to check our website, make sure you’re aware of your travel options and, if possible, leave extra time for your journey as trains are likely to be busier than normal.”
