Networking is essential to most business people but can seem daunting. You walk into a room full of people and then what? Here are a few handy tips to help you along the way.

Be prepared

Look over the attendee list in advance and ensure you have plenty of business cards with you. Remember that everyone is in the same boat, and try and think of some interesting stories regarding your business which you can share.

Arrive early

This might sounds obvious but arrive early so you can scan the room and meet as many people as possible. This way you can mingle with lots of delegates rather than having to stick with one group.

Smile

Smiling will make you seem more approachable and trustworthy, as well as put you in a positive mood.

Don’t oversell

It is important that you convey the essence if your business and how you can help others but remember don’t oversell. Networking is about building long term relationships so remember to listen and find out about other delegates and their business.

Follow up

As soon as you can follow up and either connect via social media or meet up for a coffee. Remember that all contacts are useful and could lead to sales or referrals.

Do you need help or support with your networking? If so then we are running  our training course on ‘Networking: How to Build Great Business Relationships and Enjoy Meeting Strangers’ on Thursday 16th of July.  Please see the link below for further information:
