150 Years of Crieff Hydro
Crieff Hydro opened its doors to guests in 1868 making it Scotland oldest registered trading company at grand old age of 150. Beginning as a hydropathic establishment it started life as a place of clean eating, strict dining times and chilly and (somewhat strange) hydrotherapy treatments. Of course, a lot has changed since then (a catchier name for a start!). 150 years on, you’ll find guests zooming around on Scotland’s largest fleet of Segways, sipping on gin and indulging their taste buds in one of 6 places to eat.
One thing that remains the same is the lineage behind the hotel. That’s right – it’s still in the family! Current CEO Stephen Leckie is the great-great-great-grandnephew of the founder, Dr Thomas Meikle.
Amongst the diverse range of experiences lies a “sweet spot” somewhere between work and leisure. That universal appeal also extends to the resort’s ability to host events up to 400 in the form of weddings, conferences, teambuilding, awards ceremonies and even a full month of sell-out Christmas party nights.
There’s more! Crieff Hydro Family of Hotels now consists of eight hotels across the country; from our outdoorsy cousins in Glencoe, to a much-loved great aunt in Peebles.
