Home Energy Scotland – Restoring warmth to Edinburgh’s historical homes
Restoring warmth to Edinburgh’s historical homes
Edinburgh is a truly stunning city with its medieval old town, the neoclassical new town and a broad mix of properties from Victorian tenements to Colony houses. Edinburgh’s old and new towns are recognised as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO, where 75% of the buildings are listed. The city has a total of 49 conservation areas with 23% of the city’s population living in these areas.
Conservation areas are designed to protect the historical character of an area, which means householders living in listed buildings or conservation areas need to comply with local planning guidance from the City of Edinburgh Council.
This can mean that making changes to the energy efficiency of your home may be more complicated than in a modern building.
If you are confused as to what you can and can’t do in your home and need help to understand the planning regulations, would like guidance on the best ways to reduce heat loss and to find out about what grants and funding are available, the “Restore warmth to your historical home” events are for you.
Home Energy Scotland has organised two events in November that bring together specialists in the field to answer your questions; whether that’s improving heat loss through windows, walls, or providing simple and effective tips to reduce draughts such as using full length insulated curtains.
The expert speakers include; City of Edinburgh Council – Planning Department, Historic Environment Scotland, Changeworks and members of the Green Homes Network who are people that have already implemented energy efficiency measures in their homes and are happy to share their experiences.
You can also meet specialist installers who have experience of working in historical buildings.
