Voting has opened for the 2017 British Travel Awards (BTA) and Edinburgh Castle is in the running for an award in the Best UK Heritage Attraction category.

Edinburgh Castle is number one visitor attraction in Scotland. Last year, 1.8 million visited; a 12% increase on the previous year and a new record for the site. The castle has been nominated for a BTA before and previously won four times in a row in, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014.  Nick Finnigan, Edinburgh Castle’s executive manager said:

“We are delighted to be nominated for a BTA and we’d be thrilled if we could win again. It was a huge honour for the castle to be voted the top UK Heritage Attraction in previous years and we are hoping the public will support us again so we can bring the trophy back to the castle.

“If we were to win, this award would build on a fantastic year for the castle; we have experienced another record-breaking season, with more people coming through the castle gates this year than ever before.”

Audiences can cast their vote here: edinburghcastle.gov.uk/britishtravelawards and once the vote has been placed, they are entered into a prize draw with the chance to win a £2,000 holiday voucher.

The deadline to cast votes is 30 September 2017 and voting is open to UK residents and non-UK residents who still retain a UK postcode.

The BTAs are the largest and most influential poll of consumer opinion on the performance of leisure travel and tourism providers.

Since 2008 BTA have been registering public opinion and rewarding companies considered by customers as the best at their business. Last year an incredible 1,332,516 votes and opinions were cast between 4 July and 30 September 2016.
