Introduction to Social Media markeitng is a practical one day workshop aimed at helping both new and novice users of social media for business to get set up and running.

This course gives a broad overview of the most popular platforms, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram and highlights the features, benefits and limitations of each.  A basic introduction to YouTube and Pinterest for business will also be covered on the day.  From this, participants will be able to identify which platform(s) are most suitable for them, their budget and the business.  A social media strategy specific to each participants business needs will be developed at this session. 

In practical terms, time is spent during the workshop getting participants set-up on their preferred platforms and supported with how to create engaging content for these.  Absolute beginners will get to publish their first social media for business posts. 

Who should attend?

This session will suit absolute beginners, or those that have set up business profiles but not started using them on a regular basis and have yet to maximise the opportunities they represent.

Learning Outcomes:

- How to develop a social media strategy unique to your business
- Develop a survey to understand your customers (and which platform they are on and why)
- How to set up and optimise your business social media profiles
-How to create (and become polished at) engaging content that gets your business noticed
- Understand the etiquette to be used on each platform including how and when to use hashtags #
- The pro’s, cons and limitations of each platform and which are best for your business
- An introduction to scheduling tools (e.g. Hootsuite) and the advantages of these for your business

Course Director:

Digital Marketing Director and Planner for web based marketing and communication company Social Tailor. Colin has been working in digital marketing and advertising since 2001. In 2005 he worked on Myspace pages for EMI and Universal Records. 

Colin created a world first in social media by developing a social network that alleviated traffic congestion and in 2008 went on to develop Facebook applications for Trip Advisor.  In 2009 he spent time in Las Vegas with Zappos.com, he developed a Twitter tool called Tweetabits: the location based, lead generator for business. Since 2010 Colin has been delivering social media strategy, content planning and advertising as well as providing ‘War Room’ project management for incidents on social media.


I recently attended a series of workshops covering all aspects of social media in business and your own personal brand identity. I was impressed by Colin's knowledge in this area, which was fully backed up with a comprehensive deck of slides and handouts. This was not all theory either, Colin had several real life examples of case studies that he had worked on with clients, being able to demonstrate putting theory into practice and the outcomes.  I can thoroughly recommend Colin for these workshops, which are good value for money - you will not be disappointed.
