Overview

This course provides a grounding in key financial documents, processes and terminology for non-financial managers. It covers explanations of key financial terminology, how to read financial statements to better understand past performance, how Management Accounts and Cashflow management help control the present, and how budgeting helps plan and build for the future.

The format of the day includes facilitator-led discussion, practical examples of financial information and reports, and activities/exercises to enhance learning and understanding.

  • Legal entities and their access to finance
  • Accounting “jargon” explained
  • Financial Statements: The Balance Sheet and Profit & Loss
  • Management Accounts
  • Business Budgeting
  • Cashflow Projections and Management
  • Bringing it all together

Who should attend?
This course is for
  • SME owners and staff whose role includes financial planning and review,
  • Managers in all organisations who are responsible for financial decisions that are made on a day-to-day basis, and
  • Anyone wishing to gain a clearer understanding of the fundamentals of business finance, and how finance impacts on the decisions that are made on a day-to-day basis, either at a departmental or company-wide level.

  • An understanding of the principles of financial control and the terminology of finance
  • The difference between turnover, profit, and cashflow
  • How to read and understand annual reports and company accounts
  • How to plan and manage your budget
  • How to undertake a Cashflow projection, and manage Cashflow on a day-to-day basis
