21st Century Management:

We are almost a 1/5th of our way through the 21st Century however, many managers have sleep walked into the 21st Century using 20th Century management.  The world we live and work in is changing at an ever increasing pace; both employees and customers have different expectations and needs to 10 years ago and everything is going digital.

What does it mean to be a great manager in the 21st Century?

This is the best year you will ever have as next year you will be tasked with delivering more with less resource – it is a fact of business life. There is a direct correlation between your management and leadership skills and the performance of your team/ department or business. Leading teams, managing change and balancing management input and employee empowerment are constant tensions that many business leaders/managers face.

Course outline:

The workshop will explore how to get the best out of your people based on the skill, will and focus model.

It will explore ‘how do I create the capacity, capability and desire in my team to deliver more?’ When to tell and direct and when to coach and empower? How do you tap into an employee’s discretionary effort, get them to go the ‘extra mile’ and really make a difference to your business. Share the five steps to having robust dialogues and great delivery conversations and explore how to adapt your approach to different team members and personalities. 

How do I effectively implement change and new ways of working while continuing to deliver operationally 24/7? How do you deliver the day job and manage the team and at the same time scan the horizon for future opportunities and developments?

And finally, it will share the ‘Coloured Thinking Model’ around working and learning preferences to help you better understand how to get the best out of your people and what your own preferences are.

All these questions will be explored and addressed as part of an interactive workshop blending management theory with practical day-to-day examples and participant contributions.

Course Director:

Mark Douglas is a director, mentor and coach who has had a wide and varied career.
He has been a change management consultant, led various functions including Supply Chain & Operations, HR, Learning & Development, Retail Management and Property Development for a major multinational company, an associate lecturer with Dundee Business School and since 2012 a business partner in Blue Ptarmigan and a business mentor and coach with the Princes Trust.
He has extensive experience in the design and delivery of people based ‘performance improvement interventions’ for SME’s, large corporations and public sector bodies.
