Top marks for quality for North Berwick site manager

Posted: 1st August 2019

Miller Homes site manager, Jim Martin (Livingston), is celebrating after receiving a Quality Award in the first round of this year’s annual NHBC Pride in the Job Awards.

With over 40 years’ experience working in the construction industry, the 58-year-old site manager is currently based at Miller Homes’ Ferrygate Meadow development in the seaside town of North Berwick, where his high standards and dedication towards first-class results have been acknowledged.

No stranger to success, Jim has previously picked up an impressive eight NHBC Pride in the Job Quality Awards, and was delighted to be recognised again. He said: “I was absolutely thrilled to receive my eighth Quality Award.  I’ve worked for Miller Homes for 13 years and still strive for excellence every day. It’s my job to go above and beyond at every stage of the build to ensure the team deliver high quality homes that our customers are proud to live in. It’s a privilege to be part of that customer journey and to be recognised by my peers makes all the hard work worthwhile.”

Now in their 39th year, the awards are recognised as being among the most prestigious in the housebuilding industry and celebrate the exceptional contribution site managers make in providing new homes of outstanding quality.

Every homebuilder registered under the NHBC Buildmark is entered into the competition, with Jim meticulously assessed across 44 areas of site management, including; technical knowledge, consistency of build process and quality controls.

Peter Thomson, Regional Managing Director for Miller Homes Scotland, said: “Being recognised with a Pride in the Job Quality Award is a tremendous accolade for any site manager and is richly deserved by Jim, who has demonstrated a consistent and committed approach to on-site standards of quality and safety in the building of our new homes. We are very proud of his achievements and wish him all the very best for the next stages of the competition.”

Commenting on the Awards, NHBC Chief Executive Steve Wood said: “Launched nearly 40 years ago, Pride in the Job has been instrumental in driving up the quality of new homes. Despite the challenges the industry has faced in recent times, this year’s winners have kept their focus on delivering high quality new homes for their customers.

“A site manager’s role is undoubtedly one of the toughest in house building and their drive for excellence is very much at the heart of the competition. Receiving a Quality Award is a great achievement for any site manager. It’s no surprise that Pride in the Job winning sites have higher levels of customer satisfaction as these homes are without doubt among the best the UK has to offer.”

The next round of the competition will be held in the Autumn, when all the Quality Award winners have the opportunity to win a Seal of Excellence as well as competing for the Regional title in their respective areas. “

The regional winners will then go on to compete for the national Supreme Award in their categories at the Pride in the Job Gala Dinner, taking place in London on 24 January 2020.
