The Faces of Saffron

Posted: 6th July 2016

Saffron

The Persian Trader is an ancient brand from 1792 which was resurrected by Griffin SCM Ltd, an Edinburgh based commodity trading company. Specialising in niche and high end food produce.  Their first product was saffron (The Persian Trader Saffron).

Not happy with what was already on offer, it took them over 3 years to find what the attributes of great saffron are and where to source the absolute best. Over those years, they established a close relationship with the farmers and producers from some of the most ancient farms in the world, growing saffron in the North East of Iran (an area as vast as Germany), right on the ancient Silk Road.

They haven’t stopped there either. They have commissioned a photographic series “Faces of Saffron” which is a wonderful exhibition as part of Retina Scottish International Photographic Festival 2016.

“For us, authenticity and quality are most important values of our business. Moreover, we wanted to show to our customers and to our fellow Edinburgh art enthusiasts, where we get our produce from, and who the people behind our product are. We love our food and we love art, so why not combine the two together? It is going that extra mile that eventually pays off”, said Kaveh  Shaghaghi the Managing Director of Griffin SCM and Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce member.

“Faces of Saffron” at Custom House, Leith (67 Commercial Street, EH6 7DN) from 11th to 23rd July 2016
