Engineering, environment and design consultancy Sweco has expanded its presence in Edinburgh and relocated to new offices, as it gears up to support a strong pipeline of new projects in Scotland.

The business, which currently employs 165 people in the city across transportation, energy, environment, water and asset management, has relocated to a new 14,000 sq ft office at Fountainbridge in the city centre to accommodate further growth. The new premises will provide the company with the capacity to increase the number of staff employed in Edinburgh to nearly 200.

Sweco was recently appointed to lead the £113 million Cross Tay Link Road project on the outskirts of Perth, and continues to deliver multi-disciplinary work for the new 1.7 million sq ft Edinburgh St James development. The business is also handling the route option development work for the upgrade of the A96 between Hardmuir and Fochabers.

Following the completion of a number of major transportation projects, which include the new Queensferry Crossing across the Firth of Forth, the firm says it plans to boost market share for other service lines in the region.

Sweco consults on major projects nationwide via its network of 15 regional offices, with recent work in Scotland including the development of Sighthill – the largest Transformational Regeneration Area in Glasgow – advising on two of Glasgow’s City Deal projects – the Clyde Waterfront & Renfrew Riverside and Glasgow Airport Investment Area – and the extension of the Clyde windfarm. Sweco is also involved in redevelopment work in the villages of Winchburgh and Shawfair.
