Sunday trains for Southside stations

Posted: 5th May 2017

Three Southside stations are set to gain a Sunday train service for the first time.

From 21 May, Kennishead, Priesthill & Darnley, and Nitshill stations will see 12 services in each direction call on Sundays, offering direct links to Glasgow city centre, Kilmarnock, Dumfries and Carlisle.

Trains will be approximately hourly, the first service to call will be the 0803 from Glasgow Central to Kilmarnock, with the last being the 1955 from Kilmarnock to Glasgow.

The new ScotRail Alliance timetable also begins on 21 May. Customers are being encouraged to check their journeys in advance, as train times for many journeys will be changed slightly. The new timetable is now live on the ScotRail app and at ScotRail.co.uk

Perry Ramsey, the ScotRail Alliance’s operations director, said: “I am pleased that these three Glasgow stations will now have a train service on Sundays.

“These new services will make it simpler for local people in the Southside to enjoy a day in town, visit family, or do some shopping.”

Margaret Hood of the South West Community Rail Partnership said: “This is great news for the Southside. These extra trains will reduce travel times and will improve connectivity for the community.”
