Suicide Prevention Week

Posted: 7th September 2016

This week is Suicide Prevention Week.  The suicide prevention strategy (2013 – 2016) in Scotland focuses on 5 key themes of work in communities and services.

Its 11 commitments ensure action is taken nationally and locally to continue the downward trend in Scottish Suicides and contribute to the delivery of the National Outcome to enable people to live longer and healthier lives.

In order to raise awareness of the issues surrounding suicide, a number of events have been organised throughout Edinburgh:

  • Free Film with a suicide theme (Little Miss Sunshine) on Wednesday 7 September at 6pm at the Filmhouse, with a post film discussion.
  • Choose Life Challenge Cup on Saturday 10 September from 9.30am to 12.30pm at the Hibernian FC Training Centre, Ormiston, East Lothian, EH35 5NG. Come along and support the tournament, and find out about the issues and local services. To register a team to play in the event, call John Murphy: 0131 663 1616.
  • Non-denominational service for those touched by suicide on Sunday 11 September at 3pm at St Augustine’s Church, George the IV Bridge.
