The University put forward its Universities of Scotland Events Conference 2017 for the Student Event/Festival Excellence Award at the EventIt e-awards 2018 and took home the honour at the ceremony last week (Wednesday 21 March).

The conference, produced by Festival & Events Management students, was hosted at the Craiglockhart campus last year and brought together fellow students, tutors, graduates and invited speakers from across Scotland. The event – produced for students, by students – won praise for its workshops and speakers and helped reinforce links between the different universities across the country.

A core team of undergraduate and masters students was formed to put together the event, including Mirjam Scheffler, Berit Grendel, Kamile Klimaviciute and Zhijun Liu. More students volunteered on the day to help with the smooth running of the conference.

The day itself was a great success and saw industry networking and educational opportunities presented to undergraduate and postgraduate students alike, resulting in the highest number of attendees in the conference’s five-year history.

David Jarman, programme leader for undergraduate International Festival & Events Management, said: “Winning this EventIt award is fantastic recognition for the students who produced the 2017 Universities of Scotland Events Conference at Edinburgh Napier University’s Craiglockhart campus. The event brought together over 80 Events Management students from across the country to meet and hear from a wide range of industry guest speakers, academics and graduates.

“The award, and the USEC event, means a great deal to Edinburgh Napier too as part of the ongoing development of our International Festival & Event Management programmes at both undergraduate and masters level. We have strong collaborative relationships with other universities in Scotland and together work with both public and private sector partners to develop and support the events industry and those who work within it.”
