Standard Life and Stewart Investors fire up the Business Fives winter edition

Posted: 11th November 2016

Business Fives winter edition kicked off with the Financial Services heat at the World of Football venue in Edinburgh. The tournament is working with charity partner Street Soccer Scotland to raise money and awareness to support their fantastic work creating positive change through football in the lives of disadvantaged people in Scotland.

In what was a fiercely competitive heat Kames Capital, two teams from Standard Life and Stewart Investors made it to the semi-finals. Standard Life goalkeeper Liam McCathie made a fine penalty save in the sudden death shoot out to take his team to the final, a feat he matched in that game on his way to picking up Man of the Match.

Stewart Investors also won their place in the final and booked their place at the national final at the Oriam Centre in February via a penalty shootout. Michael Bolochoweckyj scored a fine goal in the final but it was Standard Life’s Steve Rixon who proved the difference scoring to increase his top goal scorer tally and team mate Ross Weir firing in a brilliant strike with only seconds left to play to win it for the Standard Life team.

Teams from Bank of Scotland, Brodies, McHardy Financial and the Mortgage Advice Bureua in Scotland made their exits at the quarter finals stage after some hotly contested affairs.

The tournament is being sponsored by managed business communications firm, Difference Corp. Business Fives ambassador Pat Stanton presented the prizes to the teams and the action continues on Thursday with the Professional Services heat in conjunction with the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce.
