Social Bite launches Wee Sleep Out, inspiring thousands of young people to give up their beds this December to join the movement against homelessness.
The youth initiative programme launches today and registration is free. Wee Sleep Out encourages under 18’s to make their voices heard when it comes to tackling homelessness on both a national and global stage. Sleep outs will take place all over Scotland on the weekend of the 6-7th of December, the same weekend as the World’s Big Sleep Out.
Social Bite co-founder Alice Thompson created Wee Sleep Out as an opportunity for young people to hold sponsored sleep outs in their own communities. It mirrors Sleep In The Park events hosted throughout Scotland in the past few years, which have raised over £10 million in a bid to end homelessness.
It is completely free to sign up and receive a workshop, alongside lots of useful resources to help young people plan their event.
The initiative’s workshops are delivered by a small team, headed up by Alice herself. Workshops cover homelessness, social enterprise and how under 18’s can organise and host their Wee Sleep Out alongside a supporting adult. The team will travel the length and breadth of Scotland to make sure that these workshops are accessible to young people everywhere.
Wee Sleep Out ran its pilot year in 2018, with 5000 participants and over £110,000 raised by young people all over the country. This year looks set to double both numbers.

Social Bite is a social enterprise with a chain of cafes, combatting homelessness through their distribution of food and support to the homeless community in Scotland. They also, through their Sleep In The Park events, have been able to run a new housing policy in partnership with the Scottish government. This policy will lift rough sleepers off the streets and into safe, permanent homes with wraparound support.
