Series of Workshops: Data Protection in Practice for Employers – Edinburgh

Posted: 21st March 2019

The 25 May 2018 deadline has passed, but this does not mean that employers can forget about data protection compliance, and instead employers must now apply the rules in their day to day practices.

At these interactive workshops our team of data protection and employment specialists will provide examples and case studies on the practicalities of data protection compliance within the employment relationship. We are holding workshops in both our Glasgow and Edinburgh offices.

These workshops are being run as 5 block sessions across two locations. Please note that individual sign up for each workshop is also available.

1. Recruitment and Employing Staff:
21 May 2019
In this workshop we explain what data protection considerations employers need to apply during the recruitment process, from advertising to selection. Personal data plays a key role in recruitment with data being gathered from various direct and indirect sources and for various purposes.

2. How to Deal with a Subject Access Request (SAR):

28 May 2019
Employers can receive SARs at any time throughout the employment relationship, from applicants, current employees and ex-employees. Employers need to act quickly to comply with the tight statutory timescales and know what they can and can’t disclose.

3. Managing the Employment Relationship:
4 June 2019
During this workshop we will concentrate on some of the more sensitive and privacy intrusive aspects of managing the employment relationship such as occupational health referrals, drug and alcohol testing, and monitoring of employees.

4. Terminating the Employment Relationship and Post-Employment Considerations:
11 June 2019
Just because the employment relationship is over doesn’t mean your data protection obligations are too. Employers will continue to retain personnel files after employees have moved on and continue to have obligations in relation to that data.

5. How to Deal with a Personal Data Breach:
18 June 2019
Our Data Breach Response Team will provide practical advice on identifying breaches and how to deal with them, including notifying the ICO and affected employees where appropriate.
