Scottish Castles Welcome Jesters and Dragons

Posted: 21st March 2016

Stirling and Edinburgh Castles have today unveiled their packed events programmes for Easter weekend. Jesters, wizards and even a dragon will appear across the course of  Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th March.

Stirling Castle’s Festival of Foolery sees the return of the popular Fool School, where the court jester will be on hand to teach visitors how to keep a royal crowd laughing. New for this year there will also be a storyteller in the Chapel Royal waiting to tell tall tales, Easter performances from the Alba puppets, and a huge dragon will be stalking the castle grounds.

At Edinburgh Castle, visitors will have the chance to meet the cast from the castle’s history. Costumed performers will bring the past to life with talks, craft activities, and a little bit of magic from Kramus the wizard.

Lorna Ewan, Head of Visitor Experience, Content and Learning at Historic Environment Scotland, which operates both sites, said:

“Stirling and Edinburgh Castles are pulling out all the stops this Easter with fun events for all the family. Stirling Castle will be filled with jesters, puppets, crafts and games. There are also some great hands on activities, including the chance to craft your own unicorn puppet and an opportunity to try your hand at traditional stonemasonry. Visitors to Edinburgh Castle, meanwhile, will feel like they’re travelling through the centuries as they meet colourful characters from the castle’s history.”

The events take place across both days from 12pm- 4pm, and are included in the cost of admission. Entry to Stirling and Edinburgh Castles, is free for Historic Scotland members.
