ScotRail Alliance committed to Fife improvements

Posted: 17th April 2019

ScotRail Alliance Managing Director Alex Hynes met with elected members from Fife Council this week to outline plans to improve train services in the region.

The meeting, held in Glenrothes on Tuesday, forms part of the ScotRail Alliance’s commitment to engage with stakeholders across the country.

While performance in Fife has not been acceptable recently, there have been signs of improvement, with the final week of the most recent performance period (3 March – 30 March) delivering the best punctuality since the December timetable change.

The Suburban East sector, that includes Fife, Borders, North Berwick and Edinburgh – Dunblane, is a key area of focus for the remedial agreement recently reached with the Scottish Government, and the punctuality boost delivered 89.4 percent for the final week of that period.

In addition to the punctuality success, customers also benefited from the most number of seats on trains in the Suburban East sector since the December timetable change – with 99.5 per cent of the required seats delivered.

Over the course of the next year, ScotRail will introduce more Inter7City trains with faster journeys, more local services and better connections to trains to and from the Central Belt.

ScotRail Alliance Managing Director Alex Hynes said:

“The importance of engaging with stakeholders and local politicians, gaining valuable feedback from their constituents, and sharing our plans to improve cannot be underestimated.

“The meeting with the elected members from Fife was very worthwhile, and I look forward to more engagement with the councillors as we look to deliver the service our customers expect and deserve.”
