Scotland’s surf resort launches family splash sessions as wavepool temperatures top California surf hotspots during UK heatwave

Families are swapping paddling pools for rolling waves this summer as Lost Shore Surf Resort launches a brand-new family splash experience during the UK heatwave.

The surf lagoon’s water temperature of 21°C this week proved warmer than some of the world’s best-known surf destinations, including California’s famous Lower Trestles, which recorded a maximum water temperature of 19°C, and Morocco’s iconic Anchor Point at 17°C .

Located just outside Edinburgh, Europe’s largest inland surf resort has unveiled “Splash at the Shore”, a new wave session where families can bring inflatables, boogie boards and floats into the water for a supervised splash experience designed for all ages.

Set in the Bay area of the resort, the 45-minute sessions feature small rolling waves with no surfboards in the water, creating a relaxed environment for swimming, splashing and building confidence in the waves.

Wetsuits and water shoes are provided, with qualified lifeguards on hand throughout the sessions, offering families a safe way to enjoy the water together.

Iain Young, Head of Commercial at Lost Shore Surf Resort, said:

“Splash at the Shore is all about having fun in the waves together, whether that’s kids bringing inflatables into the lagoon, parents cooling off in the surf, or families trying something completely different this summer.

“The response so far has been brilliant. We’ve had loads of people laughing, splashing around and enjoying the waves together, including plenty of visitors who’ve never experienced anything like this before.

“Because the sessions run with small waves and lifeguards on hand throughout, it’s also a really safe and relaxed way for families to enjoy the water and build confidence in the surf.

“You don’t need any surfing experience at all, just bring your swimwear and be ready to have fun.”

Splash at the Shore is open to anyone aged four and above, with no surfing experience required. Children under nine must be accompanied by an adult, while children aged nine and over can take part unaccompanied.

Sessions are currently running on selected Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, with tickets priced from £20 for one adult and one child, £10 for additional children, and £10 for children aged nine and above attending unaccompanied.

As well as offering families a unique way to cool off during the warmer weather, the sessions are designed to help build water confidence and encourage more people to experience the benefits of being in and around waves.
