Reuse Showhome pop-up at Ocean Terminal

Posted: 26th June 2019

Zero Waste Leith, a pioneering project which is dedicated to creating a clean and vibrant Leith, with funding from the European Regional Development Fund has introduced a pop-up Reuse Showhome to Ocean Terminal for one week.

Featuring unique and affordable interiors from more than 30 of the best makers, creators, charity shops, organisations and businesses in Leith, the show home located on the first floor of the shopping centre offers a variety of free family friendly drop-in activities.

Various sustainability workshops are being run during shop opening hours including rag rug weaving and upcycling with plants. There is also the opportunity for customers to discover the stories of how things were made, meet the makers and pick up an idea or item for their own house, while the kids enjoy some playtime in the kids’ corner.

The initiative comes as part of Ocean Terminal’s continued commitment to the Sustainability Resolution, which was launched in January in partnership with The Leith Collective. The campaign has seen visitors ‘Bring a tin to OT’ to donate to local foodbanks, as well as hosting a variety of workshops teaching shoppers to recycle, reuse and upcycle.

Hannah Milne from Changeworks, who is running the Showhome as part of their Zero Waste Leith project, said:

“We had more than 250 visitors on our opening Saturday who enjoyed exploring our reused, repaired, upcycled and remade furniture and homewares created and donated by more than 30 local shops and makers. Some of our makers will also be offering free drop-in activities. Hurry down before we pack up shop!”

Michelle Macleod, Deputy Centre Manager at Ocean Terminal said:

“We are always looking to support local initiatives where possible and hope to move the centre forward in terms of sustainability in any way we can.

“We really want to encourage the public to come along to the Reuse Showhome to see and learn how they can make a difference to the environment by re-using or upcycling homeware in a stylish way.”

The Reuse Showhome is located on the first floor of Ocean Terminal Shopping Centre and is open until Saturday 29th June from 12 noon to 6pm daily except Thursday when its open 12 noon to 8pm. For information please visit www.oceanterminal.com.

Zero Waste Leith is a project led by Changeworks. Zero Waste Leith is part of Zero Waste Scotland’s Resource Efficient Circular Economy Accelerator Programme, which will invest £73m in circular economy and resource efficiency projects, with funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
