Reporting for Business Ltd is invited to join New Zealand’s plain English awards panel

Posted: 21st August 2018

We are delighted to announce that Reporting for Business is to become a judge for the WriteMark New Zealand Plain English Awards.

The WriteMark Plain English Awards Trust was formed in 2008, its aim being to bring plain English into wider use by publicly acknowledging the efforts of organisations that use it.

Reporting for Business will be one of three members of an international panel responsible for judging the “Annual Reports” category. This will involve assessing eight to ten shortlisted submissions on a number of plain English criteria including language, structure and presentation. The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony to be held in Wellington on 15th November.

Previous finalists have included Z Energy, KPMG and Mercer.

Reporting for Business owner Emma Fossey, said:

“Unfortunately, the language used by many organisations and businesses today still tends to favour the writing style of its writers over the reading style of its readers.

The plain English awards concept is a fantastic way of promoting and celebrating the use of readable language in public documents. We are thrilled to be a part of it.”
