Rathbones underlines its commitment to Scotland with investment in new premises in Edinburgh

Posted: 29th November 2021

Rathbone Investment Management is moving to a brand new premises in the heart of Edinburgh. The prestigious new office in George Street will provide a modern and enhanced environment for employees and visiting clients as Rathbones continues to see considerable growth in Scotland.

The new offices at 10 George Street have been recently refurbished to the highest standards and offer 11,152 square feet of flexible working space that will enable collaboration and a comfortable space for clients and employees to meet and work together, with strong environmental credentials. The office is certified as Cycling Score “Gold”, meaning it provides superior cycling facilities, a BREEAM rating of “very good” and an EPC Rating of B, all of which will help Rathbones on its journey to “net zero” carbon emissions by 2050. George Street is a prestigious location in Edinburgh, convenient for train, bus and tram stops as well as many shops and restaurants, and the new premises are close to Rathbones’ existing office in St Andrew Square. The long-term move is expected to take place in June 2022.

This relocation in Edinburgh coincides with the firm’s plan to realign its presence elsewhere in Scotland, with the redeployment of the Aberdeen team to Glasgow. The move follows the retirement of Regional Director Meera Dennis who is planning to retire in June 2022 after 35 years in the industry. While the premises in Aberdeen will close, the team will remain in place, instead based in Glasgow with the option to work remotely as preferred.

Rathbones will continue to serve its existing clients and offer financial planning and investment management advice to new clients across Scotland. Rathbones’ Glasgow office in George Square is home to some 41 investment managers and a large supporting team and will continue to be the firm’s biggest office outside London and Liverpool.

Angus Kerr, Rathbones’ Head of Scotland comments: “I am very pleased to announce our new premises in Edinburgh, which promise to offer clients and employees the best possible working environment as we come back together over the coming months. This underlines our commitment to Scotland and we look forward to a bright future in our new home in the heart of the city.

“We are continually reviewing our footprint to ensure it meets our needs while enabling us to continue delivering clients the best possible service. While we will be sorry to close the doors of our Aberdeen office, we remain totally committed to our clients and employees in Scotland and our new location in Edinburgh is an exciting step forward in our journey.

“I would also like to take this early opportunity to recognise Meera’s significant contribution to Rathbones over the past decade. She will be greatly missed and we wish her all the best for her retirement. The fact that our remaining Aberdeen team will remain intact and that our clients will continue to receive the same exacting standards of personal service, while benefiting from the wider resources of Rathbones, fills me with great confidence for the future. I am confident that all our clients will be very well served from Glasgow and Edinburgh, and that we will continue to grow our important and highly valued client base in the Highlands and the rest of Scotland.”
