Hosts of the IFSC European Climbing Championships, which will take place from 4-6 October 2019 at Edinburgh’s International Climbing Arena at Ratho, are reporting huge demand for tickets.

Tickets for Sunday’s lead finals are now sold out but there are still a limited number of tickets for Saturday’s lead qualification rounds and speed finals. Spectators will also be able to take advantage for free Clip ‘n Climb* as part of their ticket, making it a great day out for the whole family.

With climbing set to make its debut at next year’s Tokyo Olympic Games, fans of the sport and those keen to get to know it better are encouraged to buy their tickets now and see some of the best climbers in Europe compete. Over the weekend over 220 male and female climbers are expected across both disciplines of lead and speed so it is an event not to be missed.

Lindsay Renwick, Head of Customer Operations at Edinburgh Leisure said: “We’re delighted with the response to ticket sales for the European Climbing Championships at Ratho, where you’ll be able to witness some of Europe’s best climbers.

“It will be a great family day out and we’ll be offering free Clip ‘n Climb to spectators as part of their ticket cost, as well as lots of other exciting stalls to keep the family entertained.

There’s obviously some keen interest ahead of sport climbing making its debut at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. So, if you don’t want to miss out on the action, we encourage you to snap up the last remaining tickets for Saturday’s lead qualification rounds, ahead of the finals on Sunday.  It was also be an opportunity to see the speed finals too, which really are quite a spectacle.”

Paul Bush OBE, VisitScotland’s Director of Events, said: “We’re delighted tickets for Sunday of the IFSC European Climbing Championships Cup have sold out. This is an exciting time for the sport and Ratho is the perfect stage for people to see climbing first-hand ahead of its debut at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.

“The combination of both world-class facilities and some of Europe’s best climbers promises an adrenaline packed weekend of action so I recommend you get in now if you want to secure one of the final tickets still available.”

Councillor Cammy Day, Depute Leader of City of Edinburgh Council, said: “We’re very much looking forward to welcoming the European Championships to Edinburgh next month. The event is already proving to be extremely popular so I would encourage everyone to grab their tickets while they can. We’re so fortunate to have the largest indoor climbing arena in Europe right on our doorstep, and this prestigious competition is a great chance to see the stars of the sport compete before they potentially head to the Olympics in Tokyo next year.”The event is being organised by EICA: Ratho, in conjunction with the British Mountaineering Council, and with support from Edinburgh Leisure, City of Edinburgh Council and EventScotland, part of VisitScotland’s Events Directorate.
