One Square launches picnic afternoon tea in time for summer

Posted: 14th June 2018

Edinburgh foodies can enjoy a delightful picnic this summer thanks to the latest incarnation of the One Square seasonal afternoon tea menu.

The summertime menu has been developed in partnership with drinks brand Rocco Venezia Prosecco Superiore, produced in Italy and supplied from the company’s base in Edinburgh. Presented in a picnic basket, the carefully crafted selection of summer treats can be enjoyed on the outdoor terrace at One Square.

The picnic menu features savoury and sweet options, with highlights including smoked salmon and cucumber finger sandwiches, Ayrshire pork and Braeburn apple sausage rolls, lime and blueberry cheesecake and watermelon lollipops created with Thai basil and lemongrass syrup. The menu costs £32 per person with a glass of Rocco Rose or Brut included.

In addition, tea loving guests will enjoy a unique experience with The One Square Tea Service which revolves around the Scottish brasserie’s Tea Trolley and Samovar – a water boiling device used mainly in Russia, dating back to the 1700s.

The water is continually boiled and the tea pots used are specially designed to bring out the best in each blend. A timer ensures every cup is brewed perfectly and an expert will guide customers through the range of teas available to help them choose their ideal blend. A selection of black, oolong, fruit and decaf teas are available.

One Square, located at the Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa in Edinburgh’s Festival Square, is home to world-class patisserie and brasserie chefs whose passion and creativity is evident from the imaginative picnic menu.

Executive Chef, Craig Hart, said: “When summertime arrives and that rare but glorious sunshine makes an appearance in Edinburgh, we all love to be soaking the rays up outside. With that in mind, we’ve taken traditional picnic treats we all know and love, and given them the One Square treatment, producing an interesting, delicious menu. The fresh, seasonal ingredients make this particular afternoon tea the perfect summer treat to enjoy al fresco on our Terrace.”

The picnic afternoon tea menu demonstrates the commitment One Square has for working closely with and supporting local suppliers. Previous menus have been created in collaboration with Edinburgh Gin and Chocolate Tree.
