One of Canada’s biggest dramas – Coroner – finally available to stream for free in the UK on STV Player
Hit Canadian drama series, Coroner, is finally available to stream for free in the UK – with all four seasons of the gripping crime drama dropping on STV Player today.
Coroner was Canadian public broadcaster CBC’s highest-rated new drama launch in over four years when it first aired in the country. The series stars Serinda Swan, best known for her role as Karla Dixon in Reacher, as well as 24 star, Roger Cross.
In Coroner, Swan plays Dr. Jenny Cooper, a recently widowed former ER doctor who now works as a coroner in Toronto. Each episode sees Jenny investigate suspicious or unexplained deaths, using her strong emotional intuition to crack complex cases. Jenny’s fiery attitude is the perfect foil for the cool and calm temperament of Detective Donavan McAvoy (Cross) who helps her solve each case – often with a wisecrack up his sleeve to lighten the mood.
Based on the Coroner Jenny Cooper crime novel series by British author Matthew Hall, Coroner is also notable for its sensitive and nuanced depiction of mental illness, with issues such as anxiety, PTSD, childhood and posthumous trauma all covered throughout its four seasons.
Discussing her character’s mental health struggles in an interview with CBS News, Serinda Swan said: “I love that she brings out the artistry in me for really wanting to have that type of representation on screen and show that you can have a complete and total meltdown and then get up and do your job. She’s all over the place and I kind of love that about her.”
Coroner is the latest international hit drama series to be acquired by free streaming service STV Player, which is available across the UK on all major platforms. STV Player is also the exclusive free-to-air streaming home of iconic British soap, Brookside, and critically acclaimed Irish cop drama, Red Rock, with hit network dramas such as Believe Me and Grace also available.
