The Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce is an independent membership organisation. This privacy policy explains how we use any personal information we collect about you upon joining as a member and when you use this website.

What information do we collect about you?

We collect information about you when you register to join the Edinburgh Chamber as a member with us or book an event or training session with us, which can include:

  • Business name
  • Business address
  • Business size
  • Operating sector
  • Contact names of individuals within member organisations, or event/training attendees
  • Contact email addresses
  • Contact telephone numbers

Website usage information is also collected using analytical cookies.

 

How will we use the information about you?

We collect information about you to process and manage your membership or to process your booking and, if you agree, to telephone, email or mail you about membership products and services (including our events and courses) which may be relevant to you.

Upon joining the Edinburgh Chamber as a member, you may have also opted to appear on our Membership Directory for networking purposes, and if so, your name and email address will be listed here and fellow members may be contact you. Please note this is a member only, secure sign in area.

We use data collected through our website to monitor and track visitor numbers and trends, and to continue to improve our services.

To deliver our package of membership benefits, we will share details of the main contact within each organisation with the following affinity providers/partners: Free HR service provider Qudos and our Business Comment magazine publishers Distinctive.

 

Marketing

We would like to send members and non-members information about the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce including membership benefits, event and training invitations and newsletters. If you have consented to receive marketing, you may opt out at any time by following the ‘unsubscribe’ button on our emails.

You have a right at any time to stop us from contacting you for marketing purposes.

How long do we store your data?

We will store your data for the duration of your membership. We will also keep details for 24 months post-resignation, after which we will delete all personal information and keep only organisation details for archiving purposes.

Personal information we gather for non-members via event and training bookings will be deleted after 12 months of inactivity on each record (if no further bookings have been made by the individual in 12 months).

 

Access to your information, correction and Right to Erasure

You have the right to request a copy, or to amend the information that we hold about you at any time. If you would like to view or amend your details, please follow this link.

We want to make sure that your personal information is accurate and up to date. You may ask us to correct or remove information you think is inaccurate.

In accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have the right to have your personal data erased from our system. Exercising this right will remove your personal details including your name, contact details, address and social media links. Please note, we will retain a log entry only with your Name, Email Address and Date you requested a “Right To Erasure” in order for us to be compliant with auditing requirements.

You may follow this link if you would like to exercise your “Right to Erasure”. Please note that this can take up to a 30 days to be completed. Once your request has been received, an email will be sent to our team regarding your request. You will also receive confirmation of your “Right to Erasure” request once processed for your records.
