20/20 Productions support Carnegie UK and Michael Sheen for affordable credit film

Posted: 25th January 2018

Lending their expertise in producing engaging video content, 20/20 Productions, the Edinburgh-based film and digital production agency, was tasked with creating a series of compelling and informative films on the topic of borrowing high cost credit.

Exploring the lives of those on low incomes with limited options to access credit and their experiences of money lending companies the 13-minute film, and supporting short clips, include interviews and explainers.

Aimed at policy makers, practitioners and funders who can affect changes for Scotland’s lowest income households, the short film shows the need and value of providing affordable credit alternatives – such as CDFIs.

All aspects of the video production, including interviews, filming, schedules and post-production, were handled by the experienced team at 20/20 Productions, working with the Carnegie UK Trust.

Alastair Scott, MD of 20/20 Productions, explains: “The power of video is undeniable when it comes to communicating difficult topics, or tackling real life issues.  Working closely with the Carnegie UK Trust team, we used our expertise and experience to pull together an engaging and emotive film.”

On working with 20/20 Productions, Michael Sheen said “20/20 Productions were fantastic to work with. These campaigns are always better when the people behind the camera share the passion for achieving the mission being presented on camera! The end film is really great and I thank the whole team for inviting me to be part of this.”

The Carnegie UK Trust has focussed on identifying practical, sustainable alternatives for low-income households’ borrowing needs since the publication of the Gateway to Affordable Credit report in 2016. The Trust has made a formal commitment in the Scottish Government’s Fairer Scotland Action Plan to work with partners in Scotland to advance this agenda and convenes Scotland’s cross-sectoral Affordable Credit Action group, led by former Moderator of the General Assembly and Principal Clerk of the Church of Scotland, the Very Reverend Dr. John Chalmers.

Speaking about their partnership with 20/20 Productions Niall Alexander, Carnegie Associate said: “Communicating issues such as these in an innovative or engaging way is a challenge.  However, 20/20 Productions provided a great solution for the films.  Utilising their expertise, the team handled the interview process with sensitivity and their approach to filming and subsequent editing was exactly what we needed.  They worked with us to understand what we were looking for. The end result is a powerful, authentic film that we are proud of.”
